Mighty Duck Blues Band & The Run for Kids with Cancer…

CONCERT NEWS… This Saturday! Ken will be joining Gary Kendall and The Mighty Duck Blues Band for a Saturday matinee show at the Duck in St. Catharines (May 11). This Sunday! Ken, son Ben and fiddle virtuoso John Showman will perform a bluegrassy version of David Wall’s commissioned composition for the Sporting Life 10K Run for Kids with Cancer in Toronto (May 12). Their stage location is on Yonge Street at Merton, just south of the bridge.

Gospel Brunch @ Hugh’s Room…

GOSPEL NEWS… THIS SUNDAY @ Hugh’s Room! It’s the last 10th anniversary Sunday gospel music brunch until October. Series favourites Kim and Reggie Harris will be driving up from New York. Ken also welcomes Toronto Jazz songstress Dione Taylor, jazz guitarist Tristan Clark and back by popular demand, Toronto’s deepest bass vocalist Pat Patrick. Sunday Gospel Matinee…

THIS SUNDAY! 2pm @ Hugh’s Room Ken welcomes visiting musicians who are in town for the International Folk Alliance Music Conference. Joining Ken will be Gospel Roots trio The Sojourners from Vancouver, Bluegrass pioneer Claire Lynch from Nashville, percussionist extraordinarie Cheryl Prashker (Runa) from Philadelphia. And of course the inimitable Ben Whiteley (New Country Rehab) will be holding down the bottom end with his big string bass. Whether you’re coming for the terrific music, or to sing and clap along, or for the spiritual experience, Ken promises that the afternoon will be an accessible and exciting blend of musical styles that is appropriate for music lovers of all ages. Winterfolk…

CONCERT NEWS… THIS FRIDAY! The Whiteley Brothers and their sons perform at Winterfolk, Delta Chelsea Hotel, Toronto on Friday, Feb. 15. The performance by this particular group of Whiteley’s will be rooted in the styles that the patriarchs of the family Ken and Chris mastered with their seminal group “The Original Sloth Band”. Jug band, blues and swing will be the launching pad for the show and with the help of the younger Whiteley’s (Dan, Ben and Jesse) so the show is sure to have many musical surprises!
