Spirit of Yorkville, GMO-Free Festival, Crooked House Road…

Ken and bassist Dennis Pendrith will be part of the first annual Spirit of Yorkville Festival at the Pilot Tavern, 22 Cumberland St. Ken’s set starts at 1 p.m. Also sharing the bill are Brian Gladstone, Tony Quarrington, Fergus Hambleton, Klas Van Graft, Beverley Robertson. THIS SATURDAY! Ken and bassist Terry Wilkins offer up a few songs at the 2nd annual Toronto GMO-Free Festival in Christie Pits. Come join the celebration of Ontario’s rapidly growing non-GMO organic food movement. Ken and Terry go on stage at 3 p.m. but the event runs from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with speakers and an organic farmer’s market.

THIS SATURDAY! Ken recently produced the debut recording of a fantastic new Toronto-based indie-folk band, Crooked House Road. Their music flows with delicious lush harmonies, captivating storytelling, a bluesy backdrop and a modern indie feel. You can pick up the CD starting 8 p.m. Saturday night at the Cadillac Lounge, 1296 Queen St. W. Tickets $10 in advance from the band’s website or $12 at the door.

This Ain’t No Mouse Musics…

Join Ken at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema (506 Bloor St W) on Tuesday, March 31st for the showing of the film “This Ain’t No Mouse Music”. Roots music icon Chris Strachwitz, founder of Arhoolie Records, has fought back against corporate “mouse music” since 1960. This Ain’t No Mouse Music follows Strachwitz from Texas to New Orleans, Cajun country, and Appalachia, on his passionate quest to find the musical soul of America.There will be a post-screening Q&A and short performance by Ken Whiteley, moderated by Mervon Mehta, The Royal Conservatory of Music’s Executive Director of Performing Arts.
