CONCERTS & WORKSHOPS… TODAY! Saturday is Earth Hour Day and while I can’t attend Iwould like to encourage everyone to go to the Voices in the Dark: an Earth Hour Arts Celebrationto benefit Mariposa in the Schools and the Echo Women’s Choir. Last year’s event sold out and I had a great time performing with the choir and other MITS artists. GOSPEL NEWS… TOMORROW! My Gospel Matinee Season 9 Finale is this Sunday! April 1st at Hugh’s Room in Toronto. Due to a last minute scheduling conflict Chuck Campbell will be unable to join us this weekend. In his stead, Chuck’s sending us his friend and musical peer Lonnie “Big Ben” Bennett from Rochester, NY. So Sunday afternoon we’ll enjoy the Sacred Steel guitar playing of Big Ben along with the vocal stylings of gospel series favourites The Levy Sisters (Ciceal and Amoy pictured below), with Bucky Berger on the drums and my son Ben Whiteley on bass. STUDIO NEWS… Over the past couple of months Len Udow (who was a guest on my Feb. 26th gospel show at Hugh’s Room), multiple award winning children’s performer Kathy Reid-Naiman and her daughter Hannah Naiman, and Kim & Reggie Harrishave been recording with engineer Nik Tjelios and me at Casa Wroxton Studio. This week Kathy returns to put the finishing touches on her recording “Singing Games and Dances”. Her previous recording we did together “Sing The Cold Winter Away” wasnominated for the 2010 Children’s Album of the Year at the The CanadianFolk Music Awards. It’s a fabulous collection of wintertime songs for your family to share and it’s available from Kathy’s own label, Merriweather Records. You will also find my “Join The Band” CD available from there too.
