A Whiteley Gathering…

CONCERT NEWS… We hope you’ll join us for this rare musical treat… A Whiteley Family Gatheringwith Ken, his brother Chris and nephews Dan and Jesse, with bassist Terry Wilkins holding down the bottom end on Sunday, Nov. 24th at Hugh’s Room in Toronto. Chris Whiteleyis a prolific songwriter, currently playing the blues in duet with Diana Braithwaite, but with a history that includes jazz, swing and evencountry music. You can look forward to hearing him play guitar, harmonica and cornet. His eldest son Daniel Whiteleyis a virtuosic mandolinist, guitar player, drummer and also a fine singer as evidenced by his two solo recordings, “Highway Home” and “Out of the Spotlight”, which will be launched at Hugh’s Room in December. Chris’ younger son Jesse Whiteleyhas become a master of the keyboards with a repertoire that incorporates blues, jazz and R&B. Perhaps you’ve seen him with the 24th Street Wailers, J.W. Jones or the Toronto All-Star Big Band. Ken Whiteley will certainly get us singing, clapping and who knows what else he may pull out of his oversized artistic hat. Ken’s son Ben Whiteley is currently on tour with Basia Bulat, so playing bass will be the incomparable Terry Wilkins, who has been part of Chris and Ken’s musical family since the late 1970’s when he played with them in the Original Sloth Band. Just added! Hammond organ wizard Lance Anderson will be sitting in with his B3 and the incomparable drummer Bucky Berger will be keeping us all in time. This is the second concert of Ken’s 11th annual Sunday Gospel Martinee concert series at Hugh’s Room in Toronto. Contact Hugh’s Room (416) 531-6604 to arrange for your tickets and table reservation. Hugh’s Room offers a lovely lunch menu.
