Sunday Gospel Matinee…

Putting together very special combinations of people is one of the things I love most about programming my Sunday Gospel matinee concert series at Hugh’s Room, Toronto. On January 31 at 2 p.m. we have two couples each with their own unique history, but both deeply steeped in the old blues, spirituals and gospel music. Rev. Robert Jones and Sister Bernice have never met Chris Whiteley and Diana Braithwaite, but I know the combination will be fantastic. John Mays was the first person Chris and Diana mentioned when I asked who they’d like to share this stage with. I say let’s bring them all together and let me in on this fun!

On Sunday, Feb. 28th I welcome harmonica virtuoso Mike Stevens, award winning D. C. singer/songwriter Jesse Palidofsky, outstanding African Canadian singer Colina Phillips, and world renowned string bassist George Koller.

This Little Light: Mardi Gras Gospel Sing Concert is happening on Saturday, Feb. 6th atSt. Andrew’s Church, Toronto. For your musical enjoyment, below is “Joshua Fo’t The Battle of Jericho” featuring vocalists Ciceal Levy and Alana Bridgewater, and accompanied by the Jordan Klapman All-Star Quintet: Jordan Klapman (piano), Kobi Hass (bass), Glenn Anderson (drums), Tom Skublics (reeds),Jamie Macpherson (banjo) from the 2013 concert. Many thanks to Liam Romalis and Riddle Films for the video production.

NEW CD Release: I’m celebrating the release of my newest recording “Freedom Blues”, with TheFabulous Levy Sisters, Richard Underhill and many more musical guests on Friday, April 1st at 8:30 pm at Hugh’s Room. I hope you can join us. Contact Hugh’s Room to make reservations and/or purchase tickets.

Sunday Gospel Matinee…

My Toronto Sunday Gospel matinee concert seriescontinues with the next show on Nov. 29th. Have you ever wished you could participate in a gospel performance where the rhythm is rocking, the organ is wailing and the singing is full of soulfulness and sincerity? That’s what you’ll get on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2:00 p.m. at Hugh’s Room. George Olliver and Jeremiah Sparks will join me, Ken Whiteley, in leading the singing with the superb support of Lance Anderson on Hammond organ, Bucky Berger on drums and Ben Whiteley on bass. I’m looking forward to sharing some songs and a few stories with my friend and one of my biggest supporters Drew Marshall, this Saturday, Nov. 28th. Drew hosts Canada’s most listened to spiritual talk show which can be heard live online from 1pm to 5pm at drewmarshall.ca.

Check out some brand new music from my latest recording with The Beulah Band on my soundcloud channel and two of the music videos below. Also, I hope you enjoy “Old Wind Blow” from an earlier concert performance which features my brother Chris on trumpet.
