CONCERT NEWS… Two years ago Ken accepted an invitation to do a Riverview House concert at Debbie & Bill’s home in Goderich. That concert is Saturday, October 21st. Evening will begin with an opening set by The Hopefuls.

GOSPEL NEWS… This year marks the 10th anniversary of Ken’s Sunday matinee gospel music series at Hugh’s Room. The season kicks off on Sunday, October 28th with Shakura S’Aida, Soul Influence, Lance Anderson and Ben Whiteley. Tickets are on sale now from Hugh’s Room. STUDIO NEWS… Thisweek Ken and his engineer Nik Tjelios are mixing Ken’s new CD, The Light of Christmas. Mark your calendar for the last Sunday in November (25th) when he’ll release this CD at Hugh’s Room. Joining him for the afternoon will be The Levy Sisters (Amoy & Ciceal), David Wall, Ben Whiteley and Bucky Berger, all of whom performed on the recording. This concert will be in support of the Daily Bread Food Bank; 10% of all CD sales will go to support their important work in Toronto and across the GTA. You are also welcome to bring non-perishable food items for the donation bin.

CONCERT NEWS… ThisFriday (Sept. 21) I will be performing with Paul Mills, Joanne Crabtree and Eve Goldberg for an evening dedicated to the late Herb Stovel,a well-respected teacher and noted Canadian Heritage conservation architech who passed away recently. He had a great knowledge of and love for folk music. Thememorial evening will be held at the Arts & Letters Club on Elm Street, Toronto and starts at 7pm. Rounding out the month are shows in Woodbridge (Yoga as it is, Sept. 23) and Port Carling (Muskoka Place Gallery, Sept. 29). Go to Shows for more details.

SEPTEMBER CONCERT NEWS… This weekend Ken will be performing at the Toronto Vegetarian Food Festival (Sept. 7) with his son Ben Whiteley, 5th annual Prairie Day at Alderville Black Oak Savanna Ecology Centre (Sept. 8) and the Southside Shuffle Port Credit Blues & Jazz Festival (Sept. 9) with The Levy Sisters and bassist George Koller. Ken returns to Le Zaricot (Sept. 14), his favourite club outside Montreal followed by a sold-out house concert at Penny & David’s in Morin Heights (Sept. 15). Rounding out the month are shows in Woodbridge (Yoga As It Is, Sept. 23) and the Muskokas (Muskoka Place Gallery, Sept. 29). Go to Shows for more details. Last month Ken & Nik recorded some additional harmony vocals with Amoy Levy and Ciceal Levy for Kim and Reggie Harris‘ new CD, entitled “Resurrection Day”. This project was initally delayd due to flooding and damages caused by hurricanesIrene and Lee at Kim and Reggie’s home in New York last Spring.
