Carols by Candlelight…

Christmas Eve… Ken, Amoy Levy and David Wall are delighted to be singing with the EHP Gospel and Chancel church choirs at the annual Carols by Candlelight service at Emmanuel Howard Park United Church in Roncy Village, Toronto. This is a beautiful family oriented service and for the past seven years it has been standing room only, so be sure to arrive early if you wish a seat.

In support of the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank… 10 % of all proceeds from Ken’s The Light of Christmas CD are going to the Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto and the GTA. Ken welcomes back Jackie Richardson, Joe Sealy and Paul Novotny, and making their debut on the series are Aviva Chernick and Joel Schwartz. Montreal & Toronto…

Concerts this week… For all of our Montreal friends, Hello Darlin’ Productions presents Ken Whiteley with bassist Bill Gossage (Connie Kaldor) and Linda Morrison on harmony vocals,in concert at Petit Campus on Saturday, Dec. 14th. Ken is looking forward to sharing some of his new songs from his 2013 Canadian Folk Music Awards nominated CD, The Light of Christmas. Then on Sunday, Dec. 15th Ken will host a celebration of Hanukkah and Christmas at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centrein Toronto. The evening will start with meditation followed by chanting and a message from Swami Sivananda. Members, guests and visitors are all welcome to attend this annual evening concert of yoga and music.

A Whiteley Gathering…

CONCERT NEWS… We hope you’ll join us for this rare musical treat… A Whiteley Family Gatheringwith Ken, his brother Chris and nephews Dan and Jesse, with bassist Terry Wilkins holding down the bottom end on Sunday, Nov. 24th at Hugh’s Room in Toronto. Chris Whiteleyis a prolific songwriter, currently playing the blues in duet with Diana Braithwaite, but with a history that includes jazz, swing and evencountry music. You can look forward to hearing him play guitar, harmonica and cornet. His eldest son Daniel Whiteleyis a virtuosic mandolinist, guitar player, drummer and also a fine singer as evidenced by his two solo recordings, “Highway Home” and “Out of the Spotlight”, which will be launched at Hugh’s Room in December. Chris’ younger son Jesse Whiteleyhas become a master of the keyboards with a repertoire that incorporates blues, jazz and R&B. Perhaps you’ve seen him with the 24th Street Wailers, J.W. Jones or the Toronto All-Star Big Band. Ken Whiteley will certainly get us singing, clapping and who knows what else he may pull out of his oversized artistic hat. Ken’s son Ben Whiteley is currently on tour with Basia Bulat, so playing bass will be the incomparable Terry Wilkins, who has been part of Chris and Ken’s musical family since the late 1970’s when he played with them in the Original Sloth Band. Just added! Hammond organ wizard Lance Anderson will be sitting in with his B3 and the incomparable drummer Bucky Berger will be keeping us all in time. CFMA…

AWARDS NEWS… Ken has been nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in the category “Traditional Singer of the Year” for his recording The Light of ChristmasCD. He’ll be travelling to Calgary for the Awards gala and will be performing in the nominee showcase on Friday night (Nov. 8th) at the Calagry Folk Club too. Congratulations to all the nominess this year. It has been a great year for really great Canadian roots music.

Saturday with Drew Marshall & Sunday Gospel Concert…

CONCERT NEWS… Ken kicks off his 11th annual Sunday Gospel Martinee concert series at Hugh’s Room this Sunday, October 27th. Back by popular demand are Grammy & Juno Award winning vocalist Sharon Riley (Faith Chorale), David Wall (The Flying Bulgar Klezmer Group, Bourbon Tabernacle Choir) and and holding down the bottom end will be the incomparable bassist Dennis Pendrith (Murray McLaughlin, The Bebop Cowboys, Stuart McLean’s Vinyl Cafe Band). Making their debut appearance on the series are The Laws, an award winning grassy folk duo from Wheatley, Ontario. This is going to be a fabulous show.
